Frequently Asked Questions
Are Ayurvedic medications safe?
Some ayurvedic medications have been found to contain lead, heavy metals, and pesticides. If buying supplements, ensure the supplier tests for heavy metals and that the supplements are certified organic. This should be clearly labelled on the supplement’s packaging.
Ayurvedic supplements are not intended to replace a healthy diet and lifestyle. Instead, they are intended to be taken as supplements alongside a healthy diet and lifestyle.
If you are already taking medications prescribed by your doctor, please ask your doctor for clearance before taking any herbal medication (in case there is an interaction between the medications you are taking and the herbal medication).
Is Ayurveda a medicine?
Ayurveda is an ancient lifestyle medicine with roots in ancient India. It is a sister science of yoga and is a preventive medicine that incorporates herbal supplements, daily lifestyle routines, and diet. As a sister science of yoga, it also incorporates yogic practices, breathwork, and meditation as it is a holistic healthcare practice. If you have an existing health issue, Ayurvedic practices and supplements can be used as complementary therapies to support your recovery.
How does Ayurveda work?
In Ayurveda, it is believed that we have 3 core energy systems (doshas) called vata, pitta, and kapha, and to be well, we should be balanced among all three. Ayurveda is a lifestyle medicine aimed at restoring balance in the mind, body, and energy systems. Herbal supplements, diet and lifestyle changes are meant to restore balance in the body and energy systems.
What does a consultation involve?
The initial consultation will include a questionnaire to determine your dominant dosha (s) and any imbalances. You will also be asked about your diet and lifestyle, and any gaps will be identified. Lifestyle and diet suggestions will be made for you to work on, and follow-up appointments will be made to assess any improvements and check how you are getting on.
When can I expect to see results?
You may see results quickly, and people often notice changes in their lifestyle. However, for more complex cases, it may take longer to see changes.
